Together We Heal - Logo

Original Post: My sister has been battling cancer long enough to know a thing or two about helping others who find their lives turned upside down with serious health issues. I created this logo for her consulting business, Together We Heal. If you or someone you know has been affected by metastatic cancer, I encourage you to get in touch with her. You can also have a good read on her blog, Love Rules Cancer Drools.

UPDATE, June 2024:

Unfortunately, Cathy passed away after living with cancer for 15 years.

Catherine Doherty Carmody

October 8, 1968 - June 19, 2024

Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina - Catherine Doherty Carmody went to sing and dance in the streets of Heaven on June 19, 2024. The world first unwrapped the gift of Cathy on October 8, 1968 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The days in between were defined by Cathy's inexhaustible heart and love of her family, her friends, and her children. Through the love she gave, Cathy remains victorious, no matter the sense of loss that accompanies her departure from this Earth.

Cathy excelled academically throughout her young life. Appropriately enough, she grew up on School Street, and later graduated with a Master's in Accounting from the University of North Carolina in 1992. It would be inaccurate, however, to say her learning was confined to the classrooms of Rocky Mount and Chapel Hill. Cathy did not merely thirst for knowledge, she relished the experience of life, traveling often and extensively, from the palaces of Europe to the beaches of the South Pacific. A corollary of Cathy's love of travel was her exquisite taste in music and she often combined the two by venturing far and wide to see and hear the musical artists she loved. No matter the soundtrack, she enjoyed the music best with a view of the sunset, a glass of wine, and the scent of lavender in the air.

In 2009, Cathy was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was at this point that the accountant by trade ventured into another profession - that of a prizefighter. For 15 years, she pounded her opponent, with a smile on her face more often than not. When doctors told her the cancer was metastatic in 2015, she just flashed her proud Irish smirk and beat it back even harder for nearly another decade. By any measure, she was a World Champion.

Without question, Cathy's greatest joy was her children Liam (23), Hannah (20), Leo (18), and Sam (16). In addition to each of these quarter pieces of her heart, she is survived by her mother, Barbara, her sisters, Anna, Mary, and Therese, and her brothers, Danny, Leo, Jr., Vince, and Michael. Her first dancing partner in Heaven is her beloved father, Leo, Sr.

In light of who she was, it would be remiss to not remind everyone of the two simple words that Cathy made her creed: "LOVE WINS." Mindful of this motto, the family asks that you honor Cathy's memory by not hesitating to tell the people in your life that you love them, and then prove it to them as often as you can.

FunHomage

Just put this sucker up on the internet. I have been riffing on a bunch of ideas for my idea of “cool T-shirts” for awhile, just for fun. Decided to put them up on RedBubble to see if any stick. Feel free to check it out!

Update: Apparently Coors can’t take a joke.

To be honest, I see so many things that are “homage”, “in the style of”, and “a tribute to” other well known works, but are passed off as original and profitable art. Give me a break on this cease and desist. Its parody. But to those who are successful, good for them, I guess. Won’t knock them for it. And if you can find some Weller, let me know.

COLORPUSH Appreciation Post

So, I haven’t done a whole lot of work myself lately, but I wanted to give a quick shoutout to my better half, Caroline and her design eye candy here:

COLORPUSH

She has developed a beautiful catalog of patterns that are worth a good long look! You can also visit her Society6 and Spoonflower pages for wonderful gift ideas that are perfect for any friend or family member.

Album Cover (well, almost)

An artist located in Los Angeles commissioned mock-up artwork for an album to be released this year. All parties were satisfied with the end result. However, in this age of competition, my work did not advance the way I was hoping, but it was a fun process. I expanded my portfolio, learned valuable lessons in communication and got paid to do it.

Archiving Time

Recently, I discovered a back up that I thought I had lost!  I am incredibly excited.  However, I failed to create outlines for the text on some of these, and since it has been forever between here and there, some of the flyers and posters I created need some minor tweaking.  Excited to be compiling all of them in one place.  Will keep you posted on plans for them, if any.

Inspiration

This illustration, based on some antiquated scientific experiment, was an inspiration for me in 2016.  Today, I am looking around in my "box of resources" for a few new influences in the new year.

Bottle Revolution collateral - Glassware, T-shirt

Once a contest winning T-shirt design for Bottle Rev in Raleigh, NC, now a nice Teku glass for all to pour their favorite beer into.  Teku's are a favorite style of glassware among beer nerds out there.  I have to admit, I like a good beer and proper glassware never hurts. Cheers!

Pegasus Night at The Cave

Alik Lynn Lyle, aka DJ Lady Fingers began Pegasus in March of 2015.  For almost a year, she curated a monthly dance party featuring quality house and techno music. The night was a tribute to the original gay club in Chapel Hill, The Pegasus (which resided in the space that is now The Cave) during the late 60’s.  This collage features the 9 various color combinations used throughout the tenure of this monthly dance party at The Cave.  It was a fun project and I hope Alik can continue with her purpose to provide a safe space where everyone can gather and have a lot of fun.
