In 2004, I was asked to create a poster for a WKNC benefit. NC State's student-run radio station had just acquired a 25K Watt tower, enabling them to reach a broader audience. I created collateral for Benefits 1, 3, 4 and 5, which included posters, tickets and t-shirts.
Here is a small collection of posters produced for Kings from 2012 to 2013. I enjoy the screen printing process. It is a source of inspiration. During this time, I was working at Tannis Root, based out of Raleigh, NC. Screen printing shirts and archiving old designs in their database had a profound influence on my visual output at this time.
Here is a selected collection of posters created for Local Band Local Beer, a free concert series curated by WKNC. Here, you will see examples of photographed collages, vector illustrations and type treatments.
This gallery highlights my favorite posters produced for Kings from 2014 through 2015. During this time, the advertising concentrated on use of pre-fab artwork from promoters (band pics, album covers, etc). The opportunities to create more illustration or collage based flyers became less frequent. In turn, I was able to focus more on text treatments.
Here are selected posters created between 2012 and 2013. This series of the Local Band/Local Beer posters began as single show affairs. As you work your way through, you will notice that it morphs into a monthly format, giving text more influence on the layout for those particular posters.
Here is a small collection of posters produced for Kings from 2010 to 2011. Kings re-opened in 2010, near the heart of downtown Raleigh, at 14 W. Martin Street. After sitting on ideas for years, I was ready to hit the ground running. This gallery features some of my most favorite posters.
Here are a few examples of posters produced for Kings Barcade, back when they were located at 424 S. McDowell Street. I started producing work for them in the fall of 2003. I created the Kings text logo for poster use, as seen throughout. Sadly, not many examples from this time exist. I lost over a hundred items to file corruption.
Here are some highlights from 2016. Not a whole lot produced for Kings this year, as impending fatherhood was about to take over my life for awhile. Luckily, Kings had folks that were able to help crank out visual output for their shows and events.
Here are selected offerings from 2011 to 2014. This collection features posters for Brewmasters, Slims, The Maywood, Nice Price Book, Reggies and The Cave. Most of these posters showcase metal, hard rock and punk music. Of course, there are pieces that don't fall under this umbrella. See if you can tell which ones they are!
Here are a few posters produced for Local 506, which is located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. These posters date from 2009 to 2011. Bands provided images and other ideas for the creation of their posters. There were some strict guidelines in place, so most of these posters tend to have a similar look. The customer is always right.
